How volunteer screening works
Most organizations use budget commercial screeners or state-run volunteer check programs. The commercial layer stops seeing expunged and sealed records like any other private check. School-affiliated volunteering can run through district fingerprint processes — where, as with school employment, expunction (which removes the record even from government-visible systems) is the stronger remedy.
Youth-serving organizations apply strict matrices, and a decades-old dismissed case can still trip an automated flag until it's actually removed from the data.
