How DPS licensing treats records
Texas private security registration carries statutory disqualifiers keyed to conviction levels and recency — felonies and certain Class A/B misdemeanors bar registration for defined periods. Deferred adjudications and pending charges also factor into suitability.
Because the regulator is DPS, sealed records are still visible to it. Expunction is different in kind: the record is destroyed, including DPS's own entry, and a disqualifier that no longer exists can't disqualify.
Armed registration and beyond

Does sealing help for security licensing?
Less than in most fields — DPS retains access to sealed records. It still hides the record from private employers and clients, but for the license itself, expunction is the remedy that changes the outcome.
